Global Warming

It seems President Bush will skip all the meetings being held at the U.N. on global warming, but will find time to make it to the dinner. I’m not saying I’m the biggest green peace maven on the planet, but I think I would find time to at least be in attendance to hear what the rest of the world thinks of it. Egyptian Women

When I first read the headlines of this article my first thought was this was to do with circumcision for young infants or boys. After reading however I found myself in shock that this kind of thing actually still happens. This site is focused on globalization and the respect of cultures and rituals is valued by me. This however is one of those things that crosses the lines. It seems that in Egypt the men are so insecure with themselves that they revert to mutilating young girls genital areas. Can you believe this stuff? I got one for you. Learn how to treat them with respect and honor and maybe you won’t have to worry so much. My fine line in all the cultural barriers is crossed at the oppression of women. I fully can’t understand how someone could physically allow or perform this sort of procedure. It seems they are finally starting to actually enforce the bans on the procedure and they media is bringing it out of the dark for all to see. It bothers me to even really talk about it, but I had to vent on this one. I also know the arguments could be made against circumcision for young infants etc, but this is another league; at least in my opinion.

Alan Greenspan

It seems Mr. Greenspan is worried about backlash to the globalization trend. Stating in his new book “He worries that the backlash to globalization could create a “truly serious economic crisis”. I would tend to agree with his hypothesis, although I think he should talk a whole lot less these days. He seems to really miss the limelight of the media, as he appears it seems weekly stating one of his opinions. We don’t really need a former Fed chairman speaking his mind or second guessing the current Fed chief. Back to the globalization side, I do worry sometimes about how everyone seems so scared of globalization and their job security etc etc. If you step back and embrace it you will often find that it has created jobs where they never existed or create opportunities that were not there before. Being scared of something never leads to anything good. One things for sure; it’s not going away so people should learn to deal with it, and try to make something positive out of it.

Tall Building

Wow this thing is tall, and really looks kind of funny in that skyline. I’ve seen a lot of documentaries on the growth of Dubai and some of the oil rich middle eastern nations. It’s really amazing and just shows how much the rest of the world is ready to show off their wealth and engineering prowess. I like how their architecture is more modern, and they are not afraid to take chances.

Well it’s official. We really are one big happy family; or so the scantily clad Chinese girls would have us all believe. I’m not sure how this will go over there, but if I had to guess, I would say most of the men would approve.

With the Olympic Games only 11 months away, Beijing officials are busily crossing off items on their to-do lists as they await the onslaught of media, tourists and sports fans.

Refurbishing the airport? Check.

Beefing up security? Check.

Opening up a Hooters? Check.

That’s right. On Wednesday, the first Hooters restaurant officially opened its doors in the capital city. The Atlanta-based restaurant chain, known for its spicy Buffalo wings and scantily clad servers, has three other restaurants in China.

According to one report, the grand opening was marked by loud rock music, plenty of cold beer and a score of young Chinese “Hooters Girls” doing the hokey-pokey in the clingy low-cut tank tops and high-cut shorts.

There was no report if the menu included Buffalo egg rolls.

So the conservation groups listed their top ten most polluted cities. Lets take a look at who makes the cut.

Would you believe that for once we Americans don’t top a list of the bad sort.

The asterisk just means they were on the list last year.

  • Sumgayit, Azerbaijan*;

  • Linfen, China;

  • Tianying, China*;

  • Sukinda, India*;

  • Vapi, India*;

  • La Oroya, Peru;

  • Dzerzhinsk, Russia;

  • Norilsk, Russia;

  • Chernobyl, Ukraine;

Oil Well

The previous Iran entry got me thinking hard about oil, as our obvious demands can not be fixed shortly, and while many of our politicians line their pockets at the expense of the well being of our nation. I’m sure other foreign countrymen feel the same way. It’s a deep subject and there are many good reads on it out there. Think about it though, we use the oil; thus keeping these dictators in power as we spend our tax dollars not only paying for the oil, but also fighting wars protecting “our” so called interests. It’s really frustrating to think about, but at times there is no way around it. The good thing going forward it seems more people are realizing this, as it usually takes us being slapped across the face a few times to catch on. I feel guilty even writing this as I drive my gas hog SUV around. Granted I bought it six years ago before I had been slapped the last couple of times, but still I feel compelled to sell it, not so they win as many would say, but I’m sick of keeping repressive regimes in power who are brutal to their own people all so I can have the choice of driving what I want. I’m as much as a capitalist as anybody, but sometimes you have to do things for the betterment of your fellow man.

Welcome to my little slice of the internet pie. As someone already using and experiencing the benefits of globalization I figured that it would be interesting to share views for and against, as well as demonstrate how globalization interacts with our day to day lives, and to give a first hand account of integrating these patterns and new opportunities into my business. Please feel free to share your comments as well.
